Squarespace overtook Tucows as the fourth-largest .com registrar in September 2026, gaining 966,104 domains over the year while Tucows lost 1,148,121 — a reshuffle that happened entirely inside a namespace whose rules never changed. ICANN’s transfer guarantees protect who owns a domain during a registrar shift; they say nothing about whether the account sitting on top of it keeps working the way it did before.
Indonesia’s Electricity Tariff Formula Has Lost Three Straight Quarters to Ministerial Discretion

Indonesia’s ESDM confirmed on September 2 that electricity tariffs stay frozen through Q3 2026, even though the inputs to its own 2024 pricing formula — a rupiah near Rp 16,959 to the dollar, crude at $96.12 a barrel — were exactly the conditions the formula exists to price in. It’s the third straight quarter the ministry has overridden its own rules-based mechanism on the same discretionary grounds, leaving building owners with no forecasting tool except the minister’s quarterly announcement.

Japan’s patent office and all ten ASEAN IP offices adopted a new action plan on August 26 citing “growing convergence” in patent standards — but the same meeting’s own research shows Indonesia opened a domestic biological-material depository in February 2026 while Vietnam, five years after joining the treaty requiring one, still has none. Convergence on paper doesn’t erase divergence in practice.
